Continuing Education (CEU) Requirements

Continuous learning and development are essential for ministry professionals in an evolving and rapidly changing world. Continuing Education Units (CEUs) are our opportunity to embrace a learning mindset, deepen our skills in community and interpersonal relationships, and to remain on our growing edge. Unity Worldwide Ministries supports this through CEU requirements for Unity ministers, spiritual leaders and licensed Unity teachers (LUTs).

Unity ministers are required to complete seven (7) hours of continuing education each year.

At least one hour each must be in the areas of:

  • Inclusivity/Diversity
  • Ethics/Boundaries
  • Ministry Administration and Management (this requirement begins January 2026)

LUTs are required to complete five (5) hours of continuing education each year.

At least one hour each must be in the areas of:

  • Inclusivity/Diversity
  • Ethics/Boundaries
  • Ministry Administration and Management (this requirement begins January 2026)

Spiritual Leaders in Special Dispensation are required to complete five (5) hours of continuing education each year.

At least one hour each must be in the areas of:

  • Inclusivity/Diversity
  • Ethics/Boundaries
  • Ministry Administration and Management

Some guidance on the Ministry Administration and Management requirement:

Look for courses that focus on Board Training - Minister/Board Roles and Responsibilities; Church Finances and Financial Statements; Church Administration; Managing Stress in Church Leadership; Building Volunteer Teams; Empowering Volunteers: Welcoming Newcomers Successfully; Building a Youth Program; Building a Young Adult Program; Building an Outreach Program; Expanding into Community Service; Spiritual Social Action.

If you are leading/involved with Alternative, Evolving Ministries - look for courses that focus on improving the skills that your type of ministry needs.  Ideas include a class on digital record keeping, video production, directing social media content, skillsets of ministry pioneers, churches without walls, creating a satellite ministry, community organizing, engaging volunteers, diving deeply into compassionate service, non-violent communication, and more.  Explore financial resources, marketing, and alternative ways to reach your spiritual audience.  Be creative and think outside the box! UWM would love to know your most effective resources to share with others.

Where can you take CEU trainings?

  1. Taking a training through UWSI or UUMS.
  2. Attending seminars or courses at UWM’s annual convention or a regional conference
  3. Attending a Clinical Pastoral Training
  4. Attend a course in your local community
  5. Attending Prayer Chaplain Program Training
CEUs are reported on the Annual Credentialed Leader's Report
