The educational foundations our program is based on are Competency Based Learning and Kolb's Experiential Learning Cycle. Information on these foundations specific to Unity can be found here.
The Licensed Teacher Certification Policy defines who has authority to educate and credential Licensed Unity Teachers (LUTs).
⇛ Length: Two-Years, with three terms of courses (Summer, Fall, Winter) followed by a 6 to 12-month practicum (beginning in Winter Term) and licensing in June.
⇛ Required Core Courses: 13 prerequisite courses must be completed before admission to the LUT Path.
⇛ Format: Online program delivered through Canvas with weekly live evening sessions via BigBlueButton. Each course runs 5 weeks.
⇛ Approach: Competency-based training in adult education and spiritual leadership, blending academic coursework, practice teaching, and mentorship.
⇛ Classes: 12 required LUT Path courses over three terms (see program schedule). Each course meets once a week for two hours.
⇛ Credential: Completion of courses and practicum prepares graduates for licensing as a Licensed Unity Teacher through Unity Worldwide Ministries.
⇛ Tuition: $200 per course × 12 courses = $2,400 total (plus practicum, included in program).
⇛ Course Content: Weekly modules released in Canvas (readings, videos, assignments) with live sessions to demonstrate competency. It is important to complete the modules before attending the live sessions.
⇛ Practicum: Begins after Fall term, guided by an assigned mentor. Includes capstone project, supervised practice, and March Progress Reviews. Licensing occurs the following June. Licensing occurs once coursework, practicum process and reviews are completed.
⇛ Schedule: Terms begin in Summer (June), Fall (September), and Winter (January). Each term is divided into two 5-week sessions.
Session 1: January 5 – February 8, 2026
This dynamic and transformative course is designed to deepen participants' understanding of community building and leadership within a mission-driven context. "Cultivating A Unity Community" provides a comprehensive framework for fostering inclusive environments, nurturing individual growth, navigating conflict constructively, and actively contributing to the fulfillment of a shared mission. Throughout the course, participants will engage in interactive exercises, group discussions, and real-world application of concepts.
This advanced course builds upon foundational Unity Bible study principles, with the Bible being more than a historical narrative; it's the story of our soul's unfolding, a roadmap to spiritual awakening. This course will empower you to experience the Bible as a living, dynamic guide for personal and collective transformation. Our primary focus will be on bringing the Bible to life through the Maieutic process, a method of guided discovery that allows the inherent wisdom within the text to emerge through direct experience and reflection. By personally exploring various biblical texts, we will learn practical techniques to design engaging and stimulating learning environments, where the Bible becomes a catalyst for transformation in our lives and the lives of those we teach.
Session 2: February 9 – March 15, 2026
Exceptional leaders are made, not born. While some may possess a natural inclination towards leadership, cultivating the necessary skills is a lifelong journey, especially crucial in today's world. This course offers a comprehensive foundation, empowering students with the skills and mindset to lead with confidence and positive impact. We'll delve into core leadership principles, examining the spiritual community as a complex system, exploring its dynamics, and understanding the vital role of emotional intelligence in effective leadership.

Experience the profound peace and connection of Unity's meditation practices, including the transformative experience of being in the Silence. Explore the many benefits of meditation, learn how to navigate challenges, and create a daily practice that empowers your spiritual growth. Awaken to your Divine Nature and craft a daily prayer practice that resonates deeply with your soul.
Session 1: June 15 – July 26, 2026
This course equips participants with the skills and spiritual grounding necessary to build and foster truly inclusive communities. We will explore practical strategies for engaging with social issues, injustices, and inequities within both ministry and the broader community. Participants will learn to model and teach inclusive language, honor diverse customs, and navigate cultural contexts with grace and ease.
This course provides an immersive exploration into the essential principles and practices of effective church administration. Students will engage with real-world applications of nonprofit leadership, financial stewardship, legal compliance, risk management, and governance within the unique context of ministry. Rooted in Unity teachings and values, the course equips future spiritual leaders with the foundational knowledge and tools to navigate the complexities of managing a church organization with integrity, wisdom, and compassion. Through live discussions, practical assignments, and collaborative activities, students will develop the administrative confidence and insight required to lead Spirit-centered, sustainable ministries.
Session 2: July 27 – August 30, 2026
This module equips participants with the essential knowledge of learning theories—Competency-Based Education, Brain-Based Learning, Multiple Intelligences, and Kolb's Experiential Learning Theory—to design impactful courses. Participants will learn how to translate theoretical concepts into practical strategies for creating effective and engaging learning environments.
This course explores the ethical commitments of ministry leaders and creates awareness of what constitutes misconduct, factors that can lead to misconduct, and positive steps that can prevent even the appearance of misconduct.
Living An Ethical Life addresses relational dynamics as well as internal motivations and vulnerabilities and encourages leaders to develop the instincts, habits, and support systems to sustain healthy and positive relationships with appropriate boundaries.
Session 1: Sept 14 – Oct 18, 2026

Session 2: Oct 19 – Nov 22, 2026
This course engages learners in building the skills necessary to deliver inspiring messages based on Unity Principles that encourage the spiritual development of their listeners whether in the classroom or on the platform.
This immersive experience provides a comprehensive introduction to the principles and practices of online teaching. It will explore the unique challenges and opportunities of the online learning environment, covering topics such as course design, instructional strategies, assessment techniques, and effective communication with students. Participants will learn how to leverage technology to create engaging and interactive learning experiences, while also developing strategies for fostering a supportive and inclusive online classroom community.
